About

Alenka is a Butoh artist, herbalist, astrologer, somatic healer, and farmer. After growing up in Texas, she decided to explore the world, and has lived in Prague, Berlin, San Francisco, Marseille, France, Japan and currently lives in Oregon on two acres where she farms with her husband and dog, Hachi.

As a third generation Butoh dancer, she studied under Koichi and Hiroko Tamano, Berkeley, as well with other Butoh masters like Yumiko Yoshiolka, Minako, Seki,  in Europe, Saga Kobaashi, Eiko and Koma, and Kim Ito in Japan.

Her work is based on the Butoh style transmitted by Tamano-san, exploring the body as a receptacle of time, space, water, memories. She teaches classes that explore movement concentrating on our inner experience of cellular memories from our personal past back to our ancestors and the inter-connection of all life in seen and unseen realms.

She spent two years living in the artist's residency Schloss Bröllin outside of Berlin as an assistant to Yumiko Yoshioka and incorporates her signature Body Resonance style in her teachings that wake up the body and explore the connection to earth and sky through the heart center as one dances their own experience.

She’s performed and taught Butoh in America, France, Spain, Austria, Poland, and Japan, most recently in Portland, OR.
